NEWSLETTER No. 129 – 27th APRIL 2012
DARWEN
CONCERT – message from Phil, posted 1st April 2012.
- “Well
done! the Stainer went down very well
indeed and people were particularly impressed by the expression within God So Loved the World, which I thought was
fantastic (among other things). It would have been very easy after the first
half to go into the Stainer full of
negativity but I think you all recovered wonderfully and our hard work
throughout the term has paid off. I had several people come to me after the
concert to congratulate us, and more than one commented on the dynamic range of
the choir and how you are very good at getting the most from both the loud sections
and the quiet sections. This is a comment I whole heartedly agree with, your
dynamic range is excellent and it's a feature of your singing that we should
always seek to use to its fullest.
It would be very easy for me to concentrate on the negatives of the first half
of the concert, however, when all is said and done the only thing that didn't
go well was the Byrd Mass - it was a
very difficult sing and I think an early blip just knocked confidence a little.
I hope that we do perform it again in the future, because I feel we have
unfinished business with it! The Lotti
was very tight and well sung, and the Arcadelt
was beautifully performed.
Thank you all for the effort this evening during the concert (a particularly
long concert!) and for your attentiveness and patience throughout the term. Phil”
WEDDING
IN JUNE As all will be aware; we had received a provisional
booking to sing at a wedding in Whittle le Woods in June. This has now been cancelled as it is
understood that he bride and groom will be using their own church choir.
CATHEDRAL
SERVICE Phil is currently sourcing the music for the two services will be singing
in Blackburn Cathedral on Sunday 26th August 2012. Members will be aware that we will be singing
at services at 10.30am and 4.00pm. The
initial plan is that all music will be put together. Final details as to rehearsal dates have yet
to be confirmed and it is hoped that these will be confirmed at the next
meeting of the committee on Tuesday 29th May 2012. Several members have been unable to wait any
longer in planning their Annual Holidays and have now made bookings. I know of one person who will not be
returning until late on Saturday the week before the services.

With more than five hundred broadcasts and seven BBC
Prom appearances, his CD’s always receive great critical acclaim, though he can

to perform Gershwin Piano Concerto in
March. This concert is presented in

concerts. The invitation is open to
ladies and gentlemen.

made for the Annual Dinner with two dates proposed as Friday 6th and
13th July. Full information

THE SIXTEEN - This year The Sixteen's Choral
Pilgrimage 2012 will tour almost 30 venues

the Franco-Flemish school of the Renaissance: Josquin, Brumel and Lassus. They will visit Blackburn Cathedral on

Conductor
Harry Christophers says 'The music has a unique sonority which I believe will
astound you all - from the depth of expression and fascinating texts of Josquin
to the overtly decorative mass movements of Brumel's Missa Et ecce terraemotus.
We really do have a wealth of simply glorious music for you which I have no
doubt will enrich all our lives.'
